Saturday Morning Course, 10-1pm

1, 8, 22 February & 1 March 2025

This 4 week course is designed for both beginners and those who need a little refresher. Etching is an intaglio printmaking technique made traditionally using a metal plate onto which, over a number of stages, the artist’s design is drawn and etched permanently. Ink is applied to the plate and printed using an etching press.

We will provide the key skills required for Etching, from degreasing the plate, applying hard and soft grounds to draw onto the plate, applying aquatint, etching the plate, through to inking and finally printing.

This is a chance to learn the key etching skills and build your confidence with the techniques involved in a supportive and professional environment. Groups will be kept small to allow for ample space to make work

After completing this course, you would have enough experience to join the self-directed Etching course (on Saturday mornings) where you are invited to pursue your own projects with technical support on hand - throughout the whole session - where we offer advice, tips and to help problem solve when things don’t quite go to plan!

Usva Inei(they/them) is a visual artist and art educator whose practice revolves around etching and linocut.
