LAYERS OF THE CITY, BARBICAN LIBRARY
Layers of the City is a collection of prints and sculpture from three artists;
Lucy Bainbridge, Helen Bridges and Jennifer Moore,
who all share an interest in the architecture of London’s ever changing cityscape and explore fragments of everyday London views through different print mediums at Bainbridge Print. Through print (mokulito, screenprint, intaglio, cyanotype) and sculpture each artist uses their own individual way to distort their perception of the urban view and adopts subtle techniques to capture this distortion; for instance fragmented layers of colour, obscured by rain or photographic collages. As a group we wish to show a selection of images that on first glance can be read purely aesthetically, but on further scrutiny can reflect back either the diverse layers of the city, a celebration of the mundane or references the changing environment we live in.
